Dash to the stash

January 26, 2010
Show and tell is every tuesday in pre-k 4 related to the letter they are doing that week. My friend turns to me this morning and says, “What did you give her for letter L show and tell?” I look at her with panic in my eyes, “Oh my God!! Letter L!” What the hell?!? Why do I not remember that show and tell is every Tuesday??

So, I dash to my Jeep, fumbling through the back , the glove compartment, sticking my hands under the seats and feeling icky gooey stuff. Finally, I rip up the car seats. Aha, I found an old lollipop!! You see, having a stash of trash really does pay off!

piece of dust

This morning – two cute things… the two little darlings were fighting over something, not important, when the little one said, “You are nothing! You are a piece of dust!” ha ha ha – she’s only 4!

The fight escalated, of course, and both parties cried. The older one grabbed my hair dryer and pointed it to her face to dry her tears! Now, that’s an idea I have to remember!

Spreading Myself Too Thin (Mint)

February 4, 2010 at 9:10 pm | Posted in funny kids stuff | Leave a comment

January 22, 2010
I don’t know what I was thinking but I am in way over my head. I’m on the cookbook committee and the chairperson for Girl Scout cookies. I was supposed to design the cookbook cover and I didn’t know what to expect for the Girl Scout thing. The cookbook committee came on strong – they called a meeting a week into the school year. We have to meet about this?? Oh no, what did I do!? I arrive at the extremely large home of the woman who is a cardiologist in the city and has a staff, literally, at her home. Other members of the group turn out to be the very women that I would never hang out with if we were all girls at high school. The meeting went on f-o-r-e-v-e-r What? Another meeting in two weeks? These mtgs are at night, during my, you know, FREE TIME!! I’m still in the middle of that shenanigans.

Last night the Girl Scout cookie thing reared it’s crumbly head. Same overall experience – women who I wouldn’t be friends with if we were in high school. Doesn’t seem like so much so far.

Wish me luck and would you like some samoas?

iphone/ipod App Review for Small People

February 4, 2010 at 9:09 pm | Posted in funny kids stuff | Leave a comment

I’m personally totally surprised at the level kids can operate with an iphone/ipod. If you have one, here are my personal recommendations by size of child and note some are girly…

xtra small to small:
itsy bitsy spider by duck duck moose is a HUGE hit and even amuses the 7 yr old from time to time
memory matching by jirbo
match pocket phonics by apps in my pocket
ypainter by new match.com
scoops by nimblebit
fairies fly by disney
dress your princess by educa mobile

medium:
we play dots together, the free version by optime software.
Cake mania 3 by sandalot
ichess free from mymobilapps
standofood by g5 entertainment
spor origins
touch physics (one of the best apps ever according to many many reviews)
number munchers makes math fun
labyrinth and sally’s spa are fantastic but on the hard size – more in the large kid category
wifi tic tac toe is a cool idea to play against someone else but loses it’s coolness after two minutes at most
Trace by bovinedragon software

still with this tattoo thing

February 4, 2010 at 9:08 pm | Posted in funny kids stuff | Leave a comment

Little one says again that she wants to be a tattoo artist, only now she says she also wants four children and to live at home. Do you think a 4 year old knows how to yank my chain?

you wanna be what?

January 7, 2010

The kids have been asking about the college thing lately (I wouldn’t be surprised if they talked about in in 2nd grade with the way we academically rush kids along in school these days) So, my oldest says she wants to be an artist. “What do you want to be?” I asked the little one. “I want to draw tattoos on people!” she said. “What? I thought you wanted to be a doctor!!” She said, “Well, I”m not going to be a vegetarian I want to be a doctor for people.” cute – then they were saying they wanted to go to school with us parents and the little one asked if there will be a mommy at college to take care of them. Cute! That’s it for now!

Christmas Present

February 4, 2010 at 9:07 pm | Posted in funny kids stuff | Leave a comment

December 30, 2009

We had a really great Christmas. We were able to get everything on Santa’s list basically within budget and the kids loved everything. Tip: if there is a Home Depot near you definitely consider buying your next tree there. I got a beautiful 8′ one for only $35 and they tied it to my car, too! I didn’t wish to get away from the kids at any point during our four-day weekend. We spent most of the weekend in our pj’s – what’s better than that? There is a guy at work that I was talking to recently. He said that he was holding his four-year-old daughter the other day and when she drifted off to sleep he just didn’t want to let go. He said he held her for most of the night on the couch just refusing to let go. First off, I think it’s interesting to hear that from a man. I have that problem a lot (is it a problem?) I can still carry the youngest one and I can grab them and tickle them and squeeze them or whatever. My daughter said that when she goes to college she wants to live at home. This particular daughter is going to move away, I bet. I think there is only one way to stop time -be here. Being present is the best present of all.

the skittles incident

February 4, 2010 at 9:07 pm | Posted in funny kids stuff | Leave a comment

October 21, 2009

While driving to school yesterday, my two kids asked if I could open the huge bag of skittles that I’d stowed in Julia’s backpack to donate to the Halloween goody bag. Why not? They could each take a small pack out and put in their lunch. Goodies are goodies, right? Wrong! I was scolded when I picked up yesterday. No “thank you” – just an angry teacher’s aide who gave me back the bag saying I didn’t have enough – there are 22 kids in the class. Ok, I’ll admit that was careless on my part, the bag held 20 packs. Then she said with a stinging accusation, “The bag must be sealed!”

Immediately I felt inadequate. Then, I paused to address the silliness of the incident. Why do I need to give them a sealed bag of tiny sealed bags? Is a mommy likely to inject poison into tiny sealed packs of skittles?

You know what, with all I’m juggling I’m bound to drop a few eggs – let that be the worst thing I do!

Wanna Be Friends?

February 4, 2010 at 9:06 pm | Posted in funny kids stuff | Leave a comment

September 29, 2009

My little one is actually starting her third school (if you count two daycares). We are all lucky b/c a good friend of hers from her last daycare is in her new class at the new school. I see this week that she is branching out a bit. This morning she said, “there’s my best friend!” I said, “Oh! What’s her name?” “I don’t know!” she said. She and the little girl stood staring at each other – making eyes at each other, I should say.

And there you have it, friends. I moved so much growing up that my long-standing friends date back to high school. I’m so envious of people that have friends from when they were little. Lord knows that Facebook has done an incredible job of finding these old friends. I know a few people that have had elementary reunions.

In fact, the age of Facebooks brings people of all ages to the toddlerish act of asking to be friends. If someone refuses you or, worse yet, un-friends you, it’s a new level of rude, right? Well, now people can also say, “Who cares? I have ninety-five other friends no matter how shallow they are!!”
